Fernando C. Amorsolo

National Artist for Visual Arts (1972)

He developed a signature backlighting technique in which figures, leaves, flowing hair, and the contours of the body appear softly illuminated on canvas. He is a  sensualist utterly in love with the earth and the Philippine sun.

He was also known as “Grand Old Man of Philippine Art.”
